Mark Martel founded the offices of Mark Martel, Attorney at Law in 1992. He attended Stanford University for his undergraduate education, graduating with a B.A. in 1982. He then attended Stanford Law School, and received his law degree in 1989. After graduation, he worked as an associate at the large law firm of Morrison & Forrester, leaving in 1992 to raise money to continue the litigation of a major pro bono case. The case was on behalf of twelve Guatemalan families whose children were tortured and killed by the Guatemalan military. After 13 years, Mr. Martel finally won his case in international court. He has also done significant civil rights work with Title IX.
Mr. Martel is dedicated to providing pro bono legal services to worthy groups and individuals, particularly in the areas of civil rights and international human rights. A passionate advocate, he zealously advocates for the causes he becomes involved in. He has spent thousands of hours on pro bono work and is the former chairperson of the Subcommittee on Human Rights. Outside the practice of law, Mr. Martel coaches wrestling at Stanford University, in the program he used to participate in. Other interests include cycling, mountaineering, piano and guitar. He is fluent in Spanish.
